Righto, thanks. So it should perhaps be best viewed as a tiny cat-confusing juke box.

Have a cat called Alexa and you'll double your fun.

Mine arrived yesterday. Don't use the app to set it up if you have a BT box, do it via the web. By doing it through the app, it led to a frustrating 30 minutes as I tried to prove to my family that it would be a good piece of kit. I wiped it and started again using the web interface and it now works perfectly. Changed the name to Echo and fun ensued.
Unfortunately, my youngest son now uses it to play Little Mix at every available opportunity, so 'Echo, stop' is getting a lot of use.
Also, managed to freak my wife out by saying goodnight to it, and it replied with 'goodnight, sleep tight'.
First impressions are good, but I'm glad I got the cheaper version as I'm not sure what longevity it will have.

I read that people had problems with BT but mine went smoothly, maybe it's because I’ve already split the wifi into two signals. Yeah kids are annoying taking the thing over, wish it had Individual voice recognition.

Edd, how do you get podcasts are you pre-downloading them to your phone first? I just ask for the podcast and it plays the last episode. For example: "Alexa, play the Bugle podcast" or "Alexa, play the Friday night comedy podcast" will get the last episode. It will then play the previous episode when complete. We now have 4, 1 Echo and 3 Echo dots and they all get used. My kids wanted them for music, and I have one by the bed for the lights (got the Hue lights in lightning deals from Amazon). They get used every day, and we have a few friends who thought they were gimmicks but now own them!

Lol I've got a Hue lighting starter kit sitting in my Amazon basket, it's not until you have Alexa that you start to grow it and look around to see what else it can do, I would never have looked twice at wifi bulds untill we got one now the idea switching on&off dimming and changing colour by voice is suddenly a good idea.
