I cancelled my Amazon order, but I may well pick it up on PSN before it goes up to normal price.

I agree on the whole with the Euro-review. It's very like Ultimate Carnage, which was great, but somehow just misses. I started off liking it, but am already struggling after only 4 events in career mode. Unlike euro-reviewer I often think it feels unfair when you're spun out by an opponent you didn't see coming, and while you're resetting yourself it can happen again, and again... it often feels like you have no chance. The opponents are very aggressive, which is fine in this game, but it does often feel unfair to me. In career mode you have to get at least bronze in a tournament to unlock the next one, and as I say I'm struggling. Only by replaying again and again the same tournament can I progress, and it's becoming a bit of a chore because the tracks are quite samey. Dare I say it, I was getting bored racing the tracks.
Also - this is relatively minor but it's bugging the hell out of me - I like bonnet-cam, but every race puts you in chase cam so you have to change it yourself. And in bonnet-cam when you drive throught objects, as you're supposed to, often debris will stick to the car effectively blinding you.
The stunt events are alright, but they do feel like filler as the reviewer says. The whole thing does have a budget feel to it, in fact the car models are quite basic.
One other thing worth noting, and I'm surprised the review doesn't mention it. When you use boost, even in the cheap knacker car you start with, it gets insanely fast. It's more like Burnout when that happens, and I don't recall Ultimate Carnage being like that. Nothing wrong with a bit of Burnout, but this is Flatout, and I think they made the boost too fast - certainly for these tracks, because there are far too many places to come to grief. Some course also don't seem to have too many destructible bits, in fact there's a snowy course which could be from pretty much any generic racer.
I admit there aren't many games these days that hold my attention for long, so bear that in mind as I moan. I can see some people loving it, but after about 3 hours play I'm getting frustrated with spending half the races resetting back to track, there is little variety in the courses, and I haven't even been able to buy another car yet.
One more thing - I though I'd have a go at multi. Couldn't find a game so I don't even know if the servers are up.

Yep I agree with all that, I didn't even get past an hour though it just didn't hold my attention, I was thinking it's ok for a quick blast but frankly I'd rather be playing Forza Horizons that i definitely haven't played enough of, I should have spent me cash on the Horizons dlc instead.

I think it'd be a good blast with chums, though. I remember those days.

To be honest it looks shit. From the reviews its better than 3. Well anythings better than 3. Even the old racers on the nostalgia link Keith posted are more fun than these games. Road rash, outrun and carmegedon and destruction derby where my racing fix back in the day. Wow, nostalgia makes you feel really old doesnt it? Well the pursuit of a great arcade racer on Ps4 persists.

Destruction derby!... Where did that franchise go??? It's in the Sony camp too, FFS bring that back forget the overdone GT rehash.
Road rash remake is long overdue, what's more fun than thwaking other bikers with a chain.

I've just had another couple of hours with it but I'm really trying to force myself to like it. It was promising for the first couple of tournaments but the progression system in career mode is poorly thought out. To get more money I have to place at least third in a 4-race event. I must just be shit at these games now because I've lost the will to try again. The car I bought has beach ball suspension and it doesn't take much to flip - there was only one other car to choose from, and the stats were significantly worse, so there's pretty much only one car to go for. Since I can't progress in career mode (I've lost the will to retry) I can't unlock other events - so if I go to Flatout mode to 'pick any event' I can only use what I've unlocked so far - which is not a lot.
I'm doubly annoyed because I was suckered in by the pre-order store price, so have no disc to whizz along to CEX. Bastard.

I don't think it's your skills at fault with the career mode. Seems to be the main gripe in any reviews I've read. I don't do frustration, so I'll be giving it a miss.

To be fair there's still fun to be had - I've just done a wee grind to get more cash for a new set of wheels, and I unlocked a couple more vehicles and tracks, and have had a few fun races. The general handling is up to par for an arcade racer, and there's a new assault mode where you can chuck bombs about. Based on what I've seen so far, despite the faults it's probably worth it when it's £20 or thereabouts - which I don't think will be long.

There may have been a patch or it’s the placebo effect or it maybe I was in the right mood, but on a Pro with boost mode and a big telly, I really got onto this and can’t wait to get back for more, actually managed to unlock some new events with Hitler’s car for the people.
Put Drivclub on straight after and found it boring in comparison.

I had a quick go after a recent patch but don't know what it did - I couldn't find anything online about it either. The main gripe for me is the car handling. It seems okay to begin with but it's really very flaky - you can be flipped by the tiniest thing, and there's at least one bit which is bugged because there's nothing on the track but if you drive over a particular bit of ground, over you go. The cars need more weight - you need to be able to crash through shit and barge AI out of the way when you're boosting without spinning out. These flaws got more pronounced as I progressed so I'm interested to see how long you have a blast with it.

Fair enough I think it helped that my expectations were low, so far any flips have mostly been justified and I’ve had some spectacular ones too, at least I should get some use out of it to justify the purchase.
