Tell me im not the only one who spent half an hour attaking the mobs with my fists. The notes tell you press options for options dur.. but no hint how to equip a weapon. Apart from that I'm liking it a lot more than I did dark souls.

Took me a while how to figure out to hold weapons too - and even then I only equipped one. I had a good go last night but didn't get far, and ended up just leaving all the echoes I'd dropped. It wasn't many but I just couldn't be arsed to go back to those fecking beasts and pick them up. I knew it was hard before I bought it, but come on ffs, a couple of save points would make all the difference.

I'm only up the ladder and around the corner to open the first gate, but was glad to see any opened gates stay open once you respawn.I know nothing about echoes yet trying to figure out how to use health pots.

Had a couple of hours on it last night and loved it - up to a point. I just took my time, practising dodging etc on the trash mobs, and managed to open up that gate right near the first Yharnam lamp, so now have another short cut. I've found a drainy/sewery area that I haven't gone down into yet because it was late. Basically I loved it because I was happy exploring, met no mobs I couldn't handle, and never once had to trudge back to pick up echoes after being twatted. This might all change today because I suspect I'm getting near the first boss. I just hope he's near the new shortcut. Like I say, I'm taking my time. The architecture of Yharnam is magnificent and I seem to have got used to the camera - my head doesn't spin now. Also leaving helpful notes around the place, and on more than one occasion last night I got my health bar filled up when someone tagged my note as helpful. That's a nice touch.
Chris - don't know if this helps, but that mob clustered round the bonfire - if you're in a hurry and if you know where you're going, you can run past them. They react slowly.

Yup thanks started doing the run and dodge tatick last night and found the back way to that gate by the bonfire, so about the same progression as you by the sounds of it, oh and I've heaps of blood vials on me and in storage as this old fuddled thick git for some reson hadn't thought to press Tryangle.

I beat the optional old Yharnam boss who was fast and agile. A tip for you, bring antidotes and molotov's or a fire weapon. If your finding it difficult then you can get help from a npc, ring the beckoning bell. If you beat him you get something to enable the procedural generated dungeons for after you beat the game. I'm currently having trouble with the Amelia boss and I'm level 50. I think I should have put more points in endurance. I wanted to make a strength build so I put most of my points into that and vitality.
Flur what level are you now. If you want to co-op we need to be within 10 levels of each other.

Yes opening gates or doors stay open and will allow shortcuts so you don't have retread the same path if you die. If I come across a gate or door that doesn't open my priority is to look for the side that opens it. It will save a lot of time if you die getting to the boss. A couple of tips always use those vials to keep your health maxed and level up if you have enough echoes to do so. Don't hold on to those echoes longer than you have to. Farm some blood shard stones too to strengthen your weapons. You'll be able to 1 or 2 hit most enemies.
