Are the original emotes still available or have they been removed and now only available as micro transactions? If I remember right there were plenty of emotes but all anyone used was dance, I’m struggling to see the logic unless it’s a sneaky way to get players comfortable with a cash shop before dropping in more useful items.

The original ones are still available. The left d-pad or the point emote can be changed for one of the others.
It's a personal choice, you don't have to buy them. Like you I was very cynical and refused to buy them.
Then I saw how funny some of them are and how in the right place they can relieve some of the pressure whilst raiding or pvp, such as the slow clap when someone finally makes a jump puzzle or makes a mistake or the carlton dance when you complete the raid.
Or my personal 2 favourites, the tantrum when something doesn't go my way like the loot drops of the sorrow when someone dies.
They just add a little bit more fub

My free new emote is all I need for the moment.
Bungie 's reasoning behind cash shop:
Our plan is to use these new items to bolster the service provided by our live team for another full year, as they grow and create more robust and engaging events that we’ll announce later this year. It has been, and continues to be, our goal to deliver updates to the game. Going forward, our live team is also looking to grow beyond vital updates and improvements to focus on world events, experiences, and feature requests.

So Bungie's reasoning is generic marketing bollocks. I wonder if there's an emote for that.

I like that Bungie are justifying the cost, and that if I choose not to purchase emotes then I do not miss out on actual game content. Others shaft you for DLC any chance they get.

I bought Destiny, and I bought the two dlc packs. Now to play the Taken King I have to buy them all again. Whether or not I find it at a bargain price, I have to buy them all again. When it comes to shafting, Bungie are world class.

Taken king is available as a digital download you don't need to buy the old dlc again. It was marginally cheaper at launch but nothing to get excited about.
With Destiny dlc I must say I feel like I am playing a new game. The time and effort shows in the amount of content that comes each time, and so I am happy to pay because if we didn't then new content doesn't come, or it does and it's rubbish. Some games achieve that with subscriptions so you just keep paying and paying.
Nah, shafting is paying for the privilege of accessing content that is already there. Like paying for a pet or a new outfit.

From what I gather you can buy Taken King on it's own as you already have the other expansions but ironically it's cheaper to buy them all together.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are right, some stores stock it for marginally less. Maybe £2 cheaper?

Okay, it seems I got the wrong end of the stick so I'm happy to be proved wrong - but in my defence, TTK definitely was not available as a download last week. It was just showing on the store as 'not available' so I assumed it had been a limited time thingy. Still can't see it anywhere on disk though. I'd like to play it but not at PSN store price, so an expansion-only price of £25 is my cave-in price - which is how it should have been priced anyway, given that the change in levelling system was a free patch and you need to have purchased everything that came before it.

There is an issue with psn and the store that makes it unavailable. The fix I had to use was to go through the old dlc in the store and select them to download. They don't actually download but it makes psn think you have done it. This then unlocks TTK for purchase as it can now detect you have the previous dlc.
Apparently it's an issue caused by having the season pass rather than buying them individually.

Thanks, agent-man. I looked at the store last night and it was listed as available. It was then that I decided to take up telekinesis - it's been on the back burner since I saw Carrie - but the price refused to drop no matter how long I stared at it. So I put Borderlands on.

TTK legendary edition is currently sold at simplygames.co.UK for £33...
Having said that, for all the good things that have been done in TTK, I am (mostly) currently in a "play pause" on Destiny.
Not exactly sure what's turned me off it, but I just don't feel like spending any significant amount of time on it anymore.
