I just wanted to bring back one of the original and relevant fan war ever. Which was (and still is) the best football game ever? My vote goes for Kick Off 2 mainly because a player who mastered KK2 would beat any Sensi player everyday. I had a mate who played almost as good as me and we used to play games os 20 minutes each half and the scores could go for 2-1, 1-0 or tops 3 goals each. Absolutely epic! How i wish i could play KK2 again...
So...what the best for you?
Provocations are absolutely allowed and encouraged.

I have to say kick off 2, but I have a vested interest.
My first job or of uni was working for anco on kick off 3 (amiga, SNES, Megadrive, PC, (we even had a Jaguar version!). Spent a year working on kick off 3, European challenge and player manager 2.
Loved the work, but it was 100+ hours a week, on a very small team getting to compete with FIFA and PES.
I realise KO3 want as good as KO2, but our brief was to have the large graphics which caused many issues.
Some people liked it though. I read contacted a couple of years ago by a guy who wanted to know if it was a bug that if you soon the European cup after 3 seasons by a certain score.... This is 20 years after we released it!
The reviews weren't bad (not great) but it is awesome walking into game station to see shelves of your game being bought... Happy days.

Has to be Sensible Soccer, because you could name the team and all the players on it. We used to play the Pop Tarts (with Kylie Minogue as captain) against the Uphill Gardeners (can't remember the captain beyond the fact he was obviously a famous bummer).
Didn't really care what the game was like.

no way...
That´s awesome to know someone who work on any Kick Off game mate.
To this day, KK2 has to be one of my favourite games of all time. And i honestly still think its a better game then any FIFA or PES. Not in the graphics of course or the complexity of the whole package but in pure gameplay...man...that game was heaven.
By the way...was KK3 also named Goal?

No. Goal was Dino Dini's KO3 game. Anco owned the name.
Steve Screech was the lead developer on KO3 (the annoying ref from KO2). Top bloke. I mainly did the menus on all the platforms (the style was stolen from FIFA!). I did convert the game engine to the PC as Steve only developed in assembly.
Initially it was written for the SNES (I can't remember what the chipset assembly version was), which only had about 2 data registers and a couple of other address registers. This may not mean much, but you would have to take values from memory to put in the data registers, then process them and cot them back into the memory. Basically it was tough. We then converted it line by line into 68000 which was amazing as it had 8 data and 8 address registers (luxury!).
I finally converted it all to C (or C++, I can't remember). After showing Anil (the owner), Steve was made to write in C from then on. You can simply cross compile. Saves a lot of problems.
Happy days. 21 years later and still my favourite job. The team were a top bunch of guys. I think a few are still in the industry somewhere.

i gotta say i completly missed KK3...must had been when i changed for the PC i guess...
You completely lost me on all the technical stuff you explain...my knowledge was basically insert the disk on the drive. lol
Anyway...KK2 FTW!!
DO you remember Return to Europe? That was also amazing, except that bug where the goalkeeper would disapear if you shoot near the line.

Didn't play return to Europe. It was before my time there.
Sorry for getting technical. It is the technical side I loved.
In the emulator section of this website I'm pretty sure I posted a link to a games emulator. They have kick off 3 on there and I'm pretty sure they would have kick off 2 on there too.
Not able to check at the moment

Kick off simply the best, and I was rather good at it. We ran a little league many many moons ago.

haha. I still remember a couple of games too. But i´m sure you´re no match for my midfield killer goals. If you scored a goal its pretty much guaranteed that i´ll score at kick off. I play Argentina

Aye the old loft the ball from the centre, let me tell you it was banned our league as A couple of us was not too bad at that too. I used to play a one touch passing game sometimes taking the Micky out of my opponent. I also was a terrible diver, do you remember how long the slide tackle animations were, many a time I'd evade a tackle be through on goals put still decide to run back over the out stretched leg for the pen and the card for the tackler, I was a stone cold player back then lol. I remember the rather camp ref saying penalty a bit too slowly. The free kicks were epic, right from curlers to gazza 40 yard top corners. Really was the best ever footie game, I'm glad you reminded you.

the slide tackles...oh man...how i miss it. DO you also remember those goals where you took the ball near the goalkeeper. Then pressed the button to hold the ball and release it when the goalkeeper was really near and the ball just passed through him? Those were the most annoying goals ever.
