That pretty much sums it up. I can't get over how bad the graphics are - I mean they're so bad I'm wondering if I got the faulty one. DriveClub is beyond laughable - everything further away than 3 car lengths is just a smudge. Really appalling.
Tried Rigs and Valkyrie. I honestly can't believe the positive feedback. I must have a knackered one. It's going back.

To be fair drive club did get a bit of stick for the graphics. How did you find gun jack and I quite enjoyed valkyrie. The kids also had a blast on playroom. Also thought rush of blood was good. Will crack the seal on rigs tomorow.

Gunjack was actually fun, a good mindless blaster ideal for short bursts. Driveclub should be called Blob Racing - I wasn't expecting pristine graphics, but I also wasn't expecting a smudgy mess. In fact everything looked as though I was sitting too close to a CRT telly. Nothing better than VHS quality on the games, and Netflix was unwatchable.
It's quite a narrow field of view, too. The only plus side, which isn't enough for me to want to keep it, is I had no problems with motion sickness, and I've been on about 90 mins.

Have you set up your eye distance on the settings? I think there will be a few graphical duffers as we go. I'm picking up the pro on the 10th wonder if that will change anything..the effect your describing is screen door.

I love it. Maybe I was expecting less than you.
The graphics aren't HD, I would describe them closer to 800x600 resolution, but with the 'frosted glass' effect it looks OK. Version 2 (in the style of Apple) will be much better, but that would be with the ps5.
Played an hour of RIGS. Was laughing when I got ejected. Played through the setup and first game.
Switched to a couple of demos, then you vr world's. Loved the London heist, but too short. Luge was good too.
Was planning on drive club, but maybe not.
Battlezone and Eve were played by my son and look good, so may have to.
I'm really pleased with it. Will be interested to report back in the new year.

Well here are my two and only gameplay vids - Rigs (demo only - I quite enjoyed it but I think it would have got stale fast) and Gunjack (ideal for short blasting bursts and sensibly priced at £6 odd). Both of these look 'okay' in this small screen format, but where the whole system fell apart for me was in how it all looked on a 5 inch screen 2 inches from my face - not good. Not good at all, and far below what I thought were my realistic expectations. For those of you who are enjoying it though - I'm glad, knock yerselves out!

First I've seen of Gun Jack, but looks like a VR version of Galaxian or 1942. That wave based shooter style game. May have to pick that up.
Weird that we have had such opposite experiences. The resolution isn't perfect, but that will improve over the years. The head tracking is spot on and I'm surprised I didn't feel sick at all.
So you selling it then?

Yes, it's definitely going back. I'm not going to wait years for the resolution to improve! It wasn't all bad - the head tracking was great, it wasn't uncomfortable to wear, and I didn't feel sick.
I'm only slightly disappointed as it happens, having waited decades for it, and that goes back to my comments about VR being necessary these days. Convincing and immersive game worlds are now commonplace on normal screens with the hardware we have, so the impact of immersion and 360 degree-ness has, I now realise, been eroded over the years before I'd even tried VR - for me, anyway. Even the 'wow' factor of, for example, launching out of the tube on Valkyrie was distinctly 'quite qood' when it should have been 'yoicks!!'. Mind you I think that game wasn't far behind DriveClub in the smudgy graphics dept.
I don't think I'd be interested now even if the resolution was improved - and based on my experience with this I don't think 4K per eye would be enough. Like I say, what looked like the future of gaming a couple of decades ago has turned out to be a fuzzy gimmick, like 3D in films. And since developers will be producing games for a minority I can't see this, unfortunately, being a success. There'll be a lot of used units for sale soon.

Thanks for your honest review Pig, tis a shame it hasn't delivered for you. Graphically was one of my worries as I mentioned in an earlier thread, especially when the screens are right on your eyeballs, was hoping I was wrong.
I watched a few streams on twitch so obviously I can't get the experience of VR that way but what I was gauging was the user response to it. To be fair I was hearing a lot of this f@&£&) amazing, but it's a new, and new things tend to shine. Look at the PS4 camera I thought that was pretty amazing when my daughter was throwing those little robots out of the controller, can't remember the last time I even plugged that in.
How's about a few more reviews slung up on our lovely forum.

Both of these look 'okay' in this small screen format, but where the whole system fell apart for me was in how it all looked on a 5 inch screen 2 inches from my face - not good. There is something weird going on there as you should only be able to choose screen size for cinema mode, any game aps will set themselves to the in-your- face setting. Anyhow my quick half hour wasn’t the best but I’m still felling positive as the immersion was incredible, but my stomach couldn’t take it, I very quickly got one of those cold sweats you get before your about to be ill (or is that just me?) I started off in cinema mode watching a bit of Star Trek and was immediately hooked I preferred the middle screen setting. While the image wasn’t perfect I found it very watchable but then again I don’t watch anything in Blu-ray, and I liked the total blackout effect when the screen went dark – very cinemaress. Then went to Battlezone – that was a mistake, first impression was Wow then I strafed and my stomach churned, stayed with it for a minute or two then quit, tried Rez that was supposed to be the calmest of the bunch but the damage was already done, so a quick go of Playroom that was impressive but more as party gaming for the family, but like I said the damage was done and I wasn’t feeling any better, so thought I ‘d end with Tomb Raider on big screen mode… That was a big mistake it looked terrible and as I began to rotate the camera around Miss Croft my cold sweat got worse even on the smallest screen setting. Now that doesn’t sound encouraging but two things I‘ve got to take into account, one the day before Wifie was ill so it may be a bug making me unwell as I don’t feel 100% right now, and second you can’t use varifocal glasses, as you have to use the centre of you vision and on varifocals the centre is normal vision so I was better off without them, which might have contributed to the nausea as I couldn’t get the text sharp at the beginning so basically I was playing everything out of focus, I do have other pairs of glasses I can try but couldn’t be arsed to take the thing off and go get them. So I still have hope.

Chris,
They say that in small 15 minute doses the sickness gets better and not to play through it, either close your eyes or take it off. I have a stop gap to varifocals and I was fine and alsways get sick on boats car journeys ect.
If your not felling great that will not help and if your ears are out of kilter it will crew your brain up even more.
I came into this adventure not expecting 1080p resolution gameplay and yes have been a little disappointed with Driveclub and some of the VR films looking muddy. but once in the game I forgot about it, films are also fine to me, i tend to go for sound immersion more than image and generally only watch 720p stuff anyway.
i am not feeling great today and all bunged up so time will tell how long I can play today I might just take it easy.
I keep thinking of when the PS4 was released I was not blown away but the upgrade from PS3 that much but look at the quality of the games we have now, I can only think of what the devs can do once they really get to grips with the limitations of the hardware!!
Its a winner for me and not a waste of money, it's the future of gaming as far as i am concerned.

Btw I didn’t use the supplied ear buds, instead I used a pair of Sony gold cans that plug into the same place and are more comfy.
