I'll probably go back to it at some point - but on the Xbox, unless the PS4 one is significantly better, which I can't see happening. Or I could forget what I just said, and buy the PS4 one. I think I'll just be progressing at a nice steady pace, probably only solo, so that my game doesn't get ruined by the kind of riff-raff who get kicks doing that sort of thing. I suspect combat isn't going to be a strong point of mine. The sim approach is fine, but the physics seem to be less realistic than in Frontier, which seems like an odd step back.

I spent most of the day in solo mode yesterday grinding the community goal in Rakapila in between Boon data missions and then finally swapping to a Cobra Mark III albeit bare bones but find it far easier than on PC, the DS4 is a piece of cake to control with.
Once I get the Mark III up to scratch I will start some combat missions.

Did first two training missions to remind myself the controls and concepts. Kept overshooting the target on mission 2, leading to more exasperated cries from the training woman of 'Again! Come on commander, you can do this'. No I bloody can't, I thought and switched it off. I'll give it another go when I have some more time.

LOL remember the blue area is your friend and when entering atmosphere hit 2500m/s before glide or you will bounce and always break at 7

If it's the one where you have to take off, navigate to another system and land in the space station, I had to do that one twice because my landing gear appeared to be bugged - it just wouldn't lower. Had to restart.
Don't know if it's just me but when it comes to landing on a launch pad it seems more forgiving than when I played on the doorstop Xbox. Had to be infuriatingly pixel-perfect then, now you're definitely allowed a little leeway.

Had to restart the second training mission, I was inside the space station yet it still told me I had to go around and approach again. Currently pulling my hair out with the mining training, I can’t seem to be able to target the fragments.

line up press x to target but you wont ever do that while mining as you will be using collector limpets and not scooping manually

I gave up on the training. Got to the third one about killing things. Finally killed the lone one and a couple more showed up and was toast.
Went into the game and have made a few credits, upgraded my FSD so I can actually go places. Seem to be getting the hang of it, and will go back to the training at some point when I have a few skills.
Good, but found a couple of bugs that have caused me to restart. One, near the end of a mission, would only point the camera at the messages (top left), so I couldn't land or see anything.
Also some systems need scanning to find planets and things? I had one to get some wine (sounds like my wife!), but when I got back, they wanted it delivered to a place called Styx. I get there and there is no-where to land, and as I had run out o fuel I had to self destruct. Wasn't happy!

Had to restart the second training mission, I was inside the space station yet it still told me I had to go around and approach again. Currently pulling my hair out with the mining training, I can’t seem to be able to target the fragments. I suspected my mining tutorial was glitched because she was telling me to pick up a fragment that I'm sure wasn't there. I restarted and saw something shoot off this time, but the fragments are minute. Took me ages to scoop up the dang thing as it kept bouncing off the windscreen*. Finally realised you have to line it up on the blue fragment radar on the left of the dash. * I'm aware there's no wind in space**, but if Braben can have hollywood-dumb engine sounds in space, I can have a windscreen. ** unless farts in spacesuits count.

The only fart in a spacesuit it the one who typed the message (Sorry couldn’t resist) I managed to collect one fragment but it then wanted me to fill my bags, I’m going to give the training up and head to the game, maybe search YouTube for clues when I get stuck.

Best way to learn is to play, the combat training mission is nigh on impossible.

Yeah me to, did the first two tutorials then jumped in, currently in a Mark III Cobra, slightly upgraded with a mill cash in the bank and sitting at 75% in community goal what should net me 3 mill + Type 7 next I think

I found the tutorials helpful because I didn't play it a lot on the Xbox and had forgotten some basic stuff. To anyone new to the game they'd be extremely helpful as there are things even in basic navigation that would be tricky to work out for yourself.
If you buy a ship with lots of seats can you team up and all sit in it? I'm wondering why the holo-me is there otherwise. It doesn't seem like the game that needs a detailed character creator.

yes you can multi crew and you can hire crew to pilot your fighters... currently in an asp explorer trying to decide on a python or a imperial clipper
