Picked this up as I already had the aim controller, and it is what VR was meant to be.
I haven't been able to game much recently, but last night I popped on to get a couple of games in and 3 hours later I went to bed having not removed the headset at all.
It plays like a tactical shooter, slow, methodical, but it is brilliant. You can blind fire by putting the gun around a corner or over your head, movement is slick. I have had zero motion sickness (but I tend not to suffer it anyway). There are 2 turn modes, smooth or turn by 30 degrees, and the 'jump' turning isn't great for me, but otherwise it is so natural to play.
As all the headsets have a mic built in, *most* people have it turned on, and it really helps in playing. Giving constant feedback to the rest of the team. Event if you go out, you get to look from the CCTV cameras so you can be useful in giving information back to the rest of the squad.
And the people who are playing have (so far) been really nice people. I've played with several from the UK and the States, not met 1 tool yet. Everyone is happy to chat, and most people stick around if you win a few games. Yesterday as for 2.5 hours we had the same group of people, we really started playing as a unit. 1 guy was obviously better than the rest of us, but we all won a few games for the team by getting the crucial kill or securing the goal.
The game (in online modes) only has 1 game type, 1 team (4 players) breaks the firewall (Press X next to a highlighted device), then get to the laptop to 'hack' (press X next to the laptop), and the other team defends, then back to the lobby and do it again but you are defending this time. The maps are varied and a lot of them.
There are issues with the game, for example 1 player is the host for the other 7 players. If the host quits at any point, everyone is thrown to the main menu and you have to start match making again, without the players you have been playing with. I have had to add many new 'friends' through the 'Players Met' functionality. However I believe this is being addressed. How it made it to release like this is another question as it is terrible.
Another issue is the gun can drift, so it may be pointing ahead of you, but slowly the butt of the gun will drift to the right a degree or so a second, so very quickly it is 90 degrees out. A shake of the gun fixes it, but it will immediately start drifting again. This has only happened once to me (last night as I was about to finish). With the other lobby issues I didn't feel like quitting or disconnecting the gun as I could have possibly lost the rest of the team.
Progression is incredibly slow. 800 (ish) points for a win, 100 points for a loss, so you really need to be winning at least 50% of the games to progress. It has taken me about 4 hours to raise enough levels to unlock the ability to buy a gun, and I had just enough to buy the first gun that was recommended, but a lot of the low level stuff is apparently rubbish, so best to save your money. Also, when the host quits, you lose progression and credits, so with no control over anything and dodgy networks I went from midway through level 1, back to 0 XP in level 1 because of a couple of people quitting early on. However they are fixing these issues, but once again, it shouldn't have made it this far like that.
It does need more game types, and better lobby/network handling, but even with these things, it is superb. Everything you would want from a VR game and more, and the developers have already fed back on the requests that they are fixing these things, so I think (and hope) the future is bright for the game.
