Hi all, For those interested, I now have a Zx Spectrum +2 up and running on my 4K LCD TV (albeit running through composite at the moment). The games are loaded from an SD card adaptor bought from thefuturewas8bit and it works like a dream, I bought a CD of ebay for £4.00 with pretty much the whole catalogue of games, stuck it on the card and it boots straight into the game. The tape deck does work so I can also load through that for more nostalgia Games can be saved at any point which is a huge bonus too. The +2 was £40.00 off ebay, the refurbish was around £50.00 and the sd card adaptor was around £60.00 I think with postage. The whole thing was done by Mutant Catapillar who where really great, it took a few months from beginning to end though as the model I bought had a few extra issues... Pics below I am now the proud owner of an Amiga 500 with 512K expansion, Solid state reader for .adf files running on a 23 inch Monitor in VGA It runs like a dream if slighting yellowed to the case Pics below.

Wow alien 8 looks surprisingly good on the 4k, so how is the nostalgia trip as good as you remember ? Check out Ant attack and Schools Days I’m currently enjoying the SNES classics that are available with the Switch online sub, being able to play Pilot wings, Star Fox and Super Mario World as mobile is a dream come true.
Love the old School joy stick btw.

yes its been good, currently recovering from an opp for a few months so has come at the right time, I've played head over heals, dizzy, magic knight ect. a good bit and the fact you can save at any time is very handy. yes, it's a cobra mkII joystick, the sd adaptor has a port as does the plus 2 of course it's all very easy to use and set up, might invest in an HDMI adaptor which apparently looks stunning. I've been playing the SNES games too, I never had one was always a Sega person...

Sho is an ugly mofo next to the titchy rubber-keyed ones. Head Over Heels was a terrific game.

Yes, not the prettiest of machines but practical because of the tape deck, the keyboard is a damn site easier to use as well. I've also found a huge catalog of pokes, maps, tips etc for all the games which is great as some of them are rock hard. I swear that the likes of Dark Souls etc are nothing to some of these old-timers

Head over Heels the Ultimate ripoff that used a cute dog instead of a cute Walf or cute Robot? TBF I don't think I played through it though I'm pretty sure I still have it amongst the spiders in the attic, now Attic Attack that was a great game.

I think that if I could be bothered I'd sort out an old machine - and probably a Spectrum as it's the machine I started on and there's still a little fuzzy place in my heart for it. But I've played things on emulators in the past and got bored fast. Not because games are any better now, because they definitely aren't.
I wish there could be a proper backlash against the way games have gone, but it'll never happen because it's what the youngsters today are growing up with and they don't know any different. Now developers use the fact that they need a hundred digital artists to draw a car to excuse the prices of their special ultimate editions with season passes and loot boxes and other micro-transactions. I know I'm a grumpy old sod but the industry got worse the more mainstream it got. I haven't looked but I bet the latest annual re-skin of Call of Money is at or near the top of the sales chart. It's kind of sad that the new longest-awaited game on the PS4 turns out to be a Paperboy upgrade with tons of philosophical bollocks in 7 hours of cut scenes to pad it out. Ironically I'll probably buy it when it drops to £20 (in no time at all) because carrying boxes over rainy hills actually looks like fun - then I'll remember it's by Hideo Kojima, whose last game I tried (Metal Gear Whatever) turned out to be one of the most excruciatingly tedious gaming experiences I've ever had. Oh what a laugh.
I could go on, in fact I'd quite like to, but the spin cycle has just finished and I need to go drape my shreddies on the radiators.

My favourite spectrum game was watching the title screen load listening to the funky music coming from the tape recorder. The best bit was after 20 minutes, and you only had the bottom 2 lines left, the game would crash.
Happy days.

I always enjoyed getting a hooky compilation tape off a mate then spending hours realigning deck heads with a tiny screwdriver that came out of a cracker to get the optimum funk music along with the disco stripes. But my favorite pastime was fast forwarding & rewinding to make note of the 3 digit number on the deck at the start of each of the 50+ games on a C90.
I obviously had more time in those days.

I used to mark the tape with a line in pen where the next started from. I still have most of my old cassettes and have loaded a few using the built-in deck amazingly with no errors

I'm quite envous of your setup Keith so did you get the Spectrum off ebay then send it off for refurb because it wasn't working? My brother in law has offered me a +2 in the past I might take him up on the offer.

I bought it off eBay, it worked fine when I plugged it in via RF although the picture was very ropey and the tape deck was filthy.
The refurb was recommended due to old capacitors etc and they also give it a thorough clean, it was well worth it as they found a fault which was really hard to pinpoint. they also make some adjustments so all games can be played and I also asked if they could make the rf socket into composite out which is much better picture wise.
Well worth the money.
They also sell fully refurbed models from stock.

I am playing Death Stranding at the minute. It is something difficult to explain.Different,strange,annoying,captivating.Lots of cut scenes, but it has me intrigued which in modern gaming is a rarity. You will probably hate it Adam!Graphics and sound are simply stunning.

I had to look up Death Standing to see what it was about and there it is top of the PS4 charts, I’m so out of touch.
The idea intrigues me though something a bit different and not just another run of the mill copycat.
