I really miss the old side scrolling beat-em-ups like Final Fight ,Double Dragon and Streets of Rage. How great would it be to see games like that on the PS4 or Xbox One but with improved graphics, whats everybody's thoughts on what they would like to see again?

I used to love playing Final Fight at the arcade. I was quite annoyed when it came out on the SNES and had a level and Guy missing because the cartridge capacities weren't big enough at the time. Guy was my favourite character!
Flashback has been remade (one of my favourite SNES games) and Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion, so perhaps we might see some more games getting the same treatment.

I may have mentioned this before on the Old Guard but I'd like to see a remake of an old 3DO/PS1 game called Return Fire. I recon it would work a treat on any of today’s handhelds. A simple enough idea, capture the enemy flag and return it to your base. all set to classical music that adapted to the intensity of the action. it could be a challenge in single player as each map got progressively harder, but the best fun was split screen multi player except the other side could see where you were hiding, but the idea was not to hide but move as fast as possible avoiding the other team and their turrets while keeping an eye on your own flag. I originally had it on 3DO and recently bought it pre-owned for PS1 hoping it would be backward compatible on PS3 sadly it's one of the few that’s not. Thankfully I've still a working PS1 so have been re-living the multi player action with my 14year old son, whos now taken to sneaking it up to his bedroom when he has mates around. Their annoyance at having game pads with cables always makes me laugh.

I used to love playing Final Fight at the arcade. Whenever I went down to southend, one of the first things I wanted to do was play Final Fight and I would be in there for hours

Just had a look at that Return fire vid and it looks fun, I had never heard of it before. How does playing that game feel now? as I often cant go back and play old games as just ruins the memory for me.

I know what you mean about going back, but for some reason this one retains the charm, I thing it's the music and the way it picks up the tempo, but I'm having just as much fun with it as I always had. Btw I used to love Super Hang On in the arcades where you actually sat on a bike and steered by leaning it into the corners, I used to get totally in the zone and could stay on until I got board or realise that those waiting were getting frustrated.

Speaking of remakes, I just dug this out of a draw.

The tape is a 60 minute job! It took an age to load the game, then when you completed a level you had to wait an age while you loaded the next one. The graphics were a lovely monochrome as well, they were colour on every other platform!

“Way of the Exploding Fist” on the Specky looked very similar but it did the job, it was high teck at the time.
And now Iangooner has reminded me about Double Dragon I remember lugging the Atari ST to friends houses to play it, And now I’m thinking about it I’m surprised there aren’t more side scrolling beat-em-ups among the indie games these days.
