Bit the bullet and pre-ordered £34.99 upgrade, had £20.00 sitting in my pay pal account as well so softened the blow a bit....

The latest (Thursday morning) from the Sony DriveClub blog:
''In case you don't already know, the servers are up and running but they are hitting their performance limits, so they won't accept new connections until one of the current online players frees up their space (allowing another to join in their place, which happens automatically and player selection is random).
If and when you get online, you should not have any connectivity issues during the remainder of your session. When you finish and disconnect, you'll free up a space for someone else. This is obviously not ideal, especially given that there are a lot of players waiting to connect, but that's how it's working right now."
I don't have the knives out for the game (despite cancelling the pre-order upgrade I'm still undecided) but it's incredible that even though this game was delayed for almost a year, and Sony must know how many PSN memberships there are, and must know how servers can overload at big title launches - people are having to join a queue to race online. This is unforgivable, especially since they're still releasing an incomplete game - why no dynamic weather at launch?
I hope those that have pre-ordered have a trouble-free time of it, but it doesn't look good.

The more annoying thing is they I have people on my friends list who have been stress testing the servers for weeks! Obviously not hard enough

I was thinking about getting the upgrade, but it's more out of curiosity than a desire to go racing, but I’ll wait until its fixed.
I really cant imagine how they could get it so wrong someone’s head will roll, The naysayers will be pointing to this incompetence for many years to come, it’s a grand example of corporate cock up.

Judging by how many posts on here we all want this to be a great driving game but the cock ups and negativity towards it now are putting me off. I will reserve judgement until I have tried the PS+ version.

My preorder has downloaded and I will hopefully drag myself off destiny at some point after midnight for a few races. I will post my initial thoughts on it tomorrow afternoon

I’m still quite tempted, as Sony has a habit off offering sweeteners when they cock up like this.

North America is still having server problems, so it will be interesting to see how they hold up in Europe. I'm sure PSN is still acting up since its world wide crash last week. No avatar pictures on the what's new feed, erratic download speeds etc.

I ended up spending more time on destiny last night so didn't get chance for a good go at this. But initial impressions are good. Handling model reminds me of the original forza and the project Gotham series. It's a beautiful game to look at and the race was fun and challenging. Will post more once I've had a chance to get a few more races done

I agree about the Forza/PGR comparison.

Could not connect online though but knew that anyway. As soon as I get online I will create a Gamers Evolved Club
