Defiance is a third person shooter MMO, I spent hours on this on 360, and can honestly compare it to Destiny in that there are random things to kill and random public events, and you get vehicles and can group with more than 3.
There has been a lot of updates since I last played so can't really speak for how it is now only I'll be downloading it to give it another go. .

Destiny is a very fair comparison, i played this last year and really enjoyed it but after the Destiny E3 trailer last summer it seemed like it was going to do all of the same things but in a much...much prettier package.
However Defiance does many things better than Destiny at the moment - HUGE public events that are clearly marked on a MAP!!!, ability to have large groups/clans getting together in the world and tearing things up, immediate travel to friend when you drop in, proximity chat, text chat, one button vehicle summoning, 5 load out slots that can be swapped fairly quickly (handy to always have one ready for PVP which was similar to Destiny - you brought all your own gear from PVE, it was horribly unbalanced)
Theres plenty of other little things that Defiance actually does pretty well yet I had far more fun playing Destiny during the Alpha and Beta.
If its a free download then you've got nothing to lose, give it a try, but it might just make you miss Destiny a little bit more.
I've not launched it since the first DLC so i'll have plenty of updates to install, but I might give it a try later.

I only had one friend who played regularly and it was easy to meet up but chat was unpredictable and would cut-out quite a bit, this seemed to get better over time and with patches. When it worked it was great.
Might have to give up on it for now due to "network issues" I can't even download the latest patch.
