Not sure if any of you guys are board game fans, but thought I'd post anyway.
About a year ago we went to see friends in the US, who introduced us to deck building games. These aren't a type of game I had previously played or even heard of. You start with a really poor deck of cards, and you attempt to build a better deck by buying new cards (using your existing deck), and getting rid of the rubbish the cards you have. The idea is to get a really strong, small deck of cards, meaning the best cards come up more often (once you discard a card, you will get to use them in another hand).
I believe (one of?) the original game is Dominion which is a very good example of the genre, allowing for relatively quick games, which are enjoyable or adults and had my 7 and 10 year old equally amused.
From the back of it (and having also played this on holiday), we bought Marvel: Legendary, and over the course of the year we have added the add-on packs, and Legendary: Villains. We have played this game pretty often, and will sit down as a family for a game on a Sunday afternoon rather than watch TV or play on the PS4. It is also nice as we take it away on holiday for the evenings or the rainy days.
The nice thing about the game is that you are all playing co-op against the game, meaning the kids don't get upset about being picked on by their sibling, and you win or lose as a team. It is also nice as there are an almost infinite number of games and tactics which can be played. When we have lost the game (which happens relatively often), we may set up the game in the exact same way, but using different tactics try to beat the game. I like the fact that you can lose. Some games are weighted so that you will always win, not in Legendary!
On the back of it, I have got into the Marvel universe much more (and reading the Daredevil TV thread reminded me about it).
We also bought the DC Deck Building game, but that game is each-man-for-himself. It is a good game, but doesn't get played as much due to us all enjoying Legendary. I am very tempted with Legendary Encounters which is the Alien version of the game. Apparently it is different enough from Marvel: Legendary to be worth picking up.
I do prefer the Marvel universe, but of course Batman (DC) is the best super-hero ... <stands back and watches people get it wrong>
