I started in a barren radioactive planet but it still was full of strange plants and animals. What was your starting planet like?
You can upgrade your suit to make it more robust. Did you not find any upgrades? I found a crashed ship too and it's salvageable.
The alien race in my system was called the Gek. Finding out their language was fun trecking all over the planet. Did you have a alien race in your system?

Yes, I met a couple of beings. Can't recall the name now but it was one I'd seen in trailers already. I'm curious as to whether the starting planet after the reset will be the same. I suspect not, but I reckon everybody must have access to the same resources to begin with, given what you have to do to make your first essential progress. I could have spent ages longer rooting around, I was just impatient to get flying.

I think I'll try to stay away from reviews. Predictably people are already moaning about the graphics. Despite the mention of it in the very first announcement, and despite all the talk about it since, some people obviously can't grasp the concept of procedural generation. This, in its pre-reset and patch form, takes up 4.22GB.

I know I shouldn't be but I'm a bit surprised at some of the negative comments, it's as if people have been reading between the lines and inserting their own hopes and expectations, from what I've seen Murray has pretty much delivered on what he promised. The streams I've watched have gone beyond my expectations, there is a little more micro management than I would have liked but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

I am not watching any streams at all, I want to play it with fresh eyes and wonder because that it was this type of game deserves I think. I just with they would just release it worldwide after the patch on Monday, as it seems pretty much everyone has it already....

The server reset will not overwrite game saves, but it's advisable to delete the save yerself before the launch patch is installed, or certain new things won't be available. Of course this won't affect anyone who hasn't started yet (like everyone here but Bahamut and meself), but here's the list of extensive changes from Hello themselves - naturally, it's slightly spoilery, as I realised when I started reading it, so I stopped. So here's the link that you shouldn't read. Don't go there: Hello link.Don't click on it. I'm happy to start afresh in a couple of days' time, so I didn't click it either. Actually, read the bit before and after the list. There will be many additions, which they intend to be free, and the next one will include the ability to build bases and buy stonking big freighters. I read that as 'build your own space empire'! I'm happy to restart as it happens. While scouring planet 2 looking for bits to allow me to fly to that space station hanging tantalisingly out of reach, I stumbled across another crashed ship. It was bigger than mine so I nabbed it. Unfortunately it's more of a wreck and I can't get offa that planet till I find a bit that is so far unfindable. The ambient audio on this is fab.

Well, I escaped to orbit and flew to the space station anyway, through purple space. I docked and stood in the hangar bay for a while watching other ships fly in. I did a bit of trading because I'd mined some asteroids on the way, bought a nice ship upgrade, flew to the nearest planet to harvest some bits, learned some new Korvax words, finally build my hyperdrive. I discovered a black hole on the galactic map. I warped to another star system, chose a planet at random, and it was bright and sunny, not bleak and barren, and full of blue seas, so I dived off a cliff into one of them and almost froze my space bollocks off because the water is -90 degrees - which means it probably isn't water. I discovered a school of inquisitive creatures that look like upside-down peeled bananas, got head-butted off another cliff by a big rhino thing that won't share its planet with me. I'm currently parked in a damaged ship, by a shelter, trying to figure out how to blast open the doors to get inside. I'm 39,800 light years from my ultimate goal.
Honestly, there's just nothing to do in this game.

I do have one criticism, which Bahamut has mentioned - the field of view when you're in a vehicle is quite restricted. You get a cockpit view and that's it. I like to fly round huge things in space (like stations that look like little Death Stars) to have a good look at them, but the lack of exterior cam makes that difficult. It wouldn't surprise me though if a) Hello include that in a patch, or b) I just haven't found the view change button yet.

Very interesting read, the update notes. Thanks for that pig. I read it all quickly so I've forgotten already lol. The most interesting points from it are the exploits have been fixed, increasing the inventory slot size and the ability to scan star systems other players have discovered on the galactic map which means players can potentially meet.
Owning large freighters and building bases will be good additions to the game, adding more stuff to do and all for free. More future updates too. I can't wait for this update.
I too have been exploring around the galaxy and landed on a planet with a outpost under water. I'm not sure it's supposed to be under water though as there was a alien in there and he didn't have a suit on and any breathing gear. Probably a procedural generation glitch. I've also had some fun space battles with pirates who were trying to hijack a freighter. Took out 3 of them but one of them got me and I ended up back at the closest space station with all my cargo lost but my ship was returned though but damaged.
They are resetting on Monday as well so everybody starts proper Monday midnight.
Pigmagnet - I haven't found any 3rd person view button either. I hope they add that feature.

Retro - You should have went with simply. That's where I got mine from.
I've installed the update and it's only 824Mb. I deleted my save so I'm starting fresh again.
A few things I've noticed that are different with this new patch. The inventory slot improvements with your ship and exosuit allowing 500 and 250 units instead of 100. I'm glad they changed that as running out of room for items meant I had to discard stuff to make room which meant time wasted gathering materials. Its now L3 to scan instead of the circle button. A strange change but maybe it's to stop you moving while your scanning as you can miss things if your running plus it's stops sore thumbs as I did tend to use the scan alot.
You can now scan in space but it doesn't show what's in asteroids. Actually I don't know what it scans.
There just a few changes I've noticed so far.
