Thanks mate. Basically I have nowhere near enough cash. On a plus note, my joystick will be here by the weekend. There's probably a joke in there somewhere but I'm too tired to make it.

Making some money now but I really want to increase my cargo holds, I've noticed the transporter craft in the shipyard recently, it has a decent payload, however I've been getting attacked more regularly now so would I just get shot to pieces with this larger ship?
I put a new gun on my Hauler but it's terrible fragmentation cannon which is dreadfully slow to fire, what's the best weapon to have considering I only one one hardloint?
Also will this game have the ability to hire crew to man ships and to set up trade routes or Civilian transportation like on elite frontier on the Atari st?

The larger ships are the best for trading, type 6, 7 and 9. You can make loads doing just trading. You are more vulnerable but they have stronger hulls so getting away is easier than in your hauler. I wouldn't bother putting any weapons on the hauler. Your best bet is to run and not lose your cargo and ship rebuy cost. Use your boost speed to get away and hyperspace out there. Just upgrade the thrusters and frame shift drive to increase your speed and jump range. You can put a chaff launcher and point defence but you will lose some jump range. Maybe worth it if you can't get away quick. Try this setup and upgrade as you make money. Its got a 17.8 ly jump range fully fueled. Starter HaulerAt the moment the Guardians update is in beta. That will have crew you can hire for ship launched fighters and civilian passenger missions which pay alot as well. Only a handful of ships can have ship fighters and passenger cabins. The cheapest one that can have them is the keelback at over 3m credits.

Can't get used to my controller set up I'm using the crab profile, I'm having particular problems switching between weapon groups/scanner, too many shift buttons too complicated for me. How easy is it to set up your own button configuration, what I want is the most used buttons on the stick, perhaps flight controls and non lethal on thrust controller while combat based stuff on the stick. No time now but I'll have a look at it, as I can't work with this set up I'm using now.
Tried the community challenge, but couldnt find reactive armour for sale anywhere, good pay outs are to be had doing those challenges.

Shame you couldnt find those reactive armours for the community goal. You would have got 400k for one delivery run. I got 2.16 mil for one run in my type-7. Use the commodities market from a station and its shows where they are imported from or use this website to find commodities near you and trade routes.

I've done lots of data runs in my sidewinder, getting used to the controls and the Thrustmaster (excellent purchase, got mine for £15 from CEX). I've now got just shy of 100k. If I buy another ship, what happens to the old one? Do they get stored in something like a garage and can I then access it from whatever system I'm in? Thinking about buying an Eagle and going to shoot some pirates and then buying a hauler. I don't want to have to keep returning to my home system to change ships. Also, the community goals are miles away from me, do they change regularly? This is a fantastic game, up with Bloodborne as the best game I've played this year, but unlike Bloodborne I haven't killed anyone yet!

When you buy another ship, you get a choice you can part Ex it or buy the new one out right with cash, i only have one ship as I part ex, I'd imagine it gets stored at that station if you keep it ? Perhaps Keith or Austin can answer that one. The community challenges have the length of of time for expiration when you sign up, seem to be a couple of weeks. One has finished earlier this week which Austin did rather well at and one still has a 1 week or so to run, remember once they have the tonnage needs they end immediately. The challenges are worth doing even if you only do one load, you automatically get the lowest tier payment. Upgrade your jump capabilities it doesn't take that long to jump there. I was top 50% last time I logged on, which was worth a couple million if I remember correctly.

Yes if you buy another ship it get stored in the station you bought it in or if you swap the old one does, at least thats how it was months ago when i played, also you cannot transfer between stations so you need to go back to the station that ship is at to collect it.

You can store a ship at any station if you buy another. Currently you have to travel to the station to use a ship you left there.
In the next update we will be able to transfer ships to another system but at a cost of time and credits. It's still being balanced to how much time and credits based on feedback. From what I've seen in the beta, it's not going to be cheap if it's long distance away.
You will also be able to store modules from ships and have them sent to you. That's useful for engineered modules as you can't change them without selling one of them.

Question am I upto date with the horizon version, is the engineer thingy an extra? If you bought the horizons expansion then yes you have access to engineers. You can see the engineers in the right hand UI panel. You unlock them by upping your ranks or doing a certain task then you will get a invite message from the engineer. I've met the requirements for a invite from Felicity Farseer. She improves your jump distance and engine speed. I have to bring her a very rare meta-alloy which I believe you can mine on planets or buy from the Maia system for 115k each.

Yes you have to go to the station to get paid on the mission board. If you don't claim after two weeks it auto pays you I think. Nice little earner there. Don't spend it all at once.
