All I can say this is a nightmare the firmware won't reinstall. I may have to put the old drive back in before my PS4 goes on a flying lesson.
have fun all

Keepad you're probably trying to install the wrong firmware, there are two versions. When you change the hard drive you need to install a bigger file. Here is a link to the page. Just click on "download now" which is written in the text about half way down the page.

No problem, I had the same issue myself. I was tearing my hair out for a while before I decided to google it to try and find out where I'd gone wrong. I don't have that much hair to tear out these days either!

I must be the only one on here who hasn't upgraded the hard drive No, I hadn't upgraded, but that was then, this is now. Received my 2Tb Seagate drive yesterday, so spent last night putting it in. Had a slight issue with backing up the old drive as my external HDD has that stupidsoftware which adds multiple devices of 'CD-ROMs' of software I have never wanted. This seemed to cause the PS4 ot to know where the real disk was and therefore kept saying that there wasn't room to backup. I ended up using a 32Gb memory stick and deleted all my games (except PT) and backing it up (about 20Gb). Followed the instructions and it took about 30 minutes in total. I then left it downloading all night and it all seemed good this morning. This was migrating multiple accounts with a single backup which worked well. I had made a note of all the users PSN email addresses and passwords before hand which was lucky as my daughters it had forgotten the email address. All passwords had to be re-entered as you'd expect. So, although stressful, it worked well and first time and I have 1.7Tb to play with (before downloading all the games).

Nice one, Mines still got plenty of space a year and a half later, and a lot of my games are the full digital versions.

It was a right pain to upgrade my hard drive. I couldn't make my mind up which usb port to plug it into.

I expect you keep the external HD next to your external power brick, It's amazing that a box that big hasn't enough room inside, it must be full of that extra cloud power we used to hear so much about.

You done well to make the 500mb last so long especially with multiple users on your ps4 and the share factory video thingy and there was me thinking I was frugal with my disk space. 2tb may well see you through till the death of ps4 now

I'm lucky enough to live a house that's big enough to accommodate such things. Your just lucky you have a system without enough decent games to fill your 500g.
