Cheers. I've done no reading round at all on this game and this is exactly the sort of thing I should be looking at. 20 soon!

Nice read. Those ascendant materials will be hard to get. Too much randomness.

I'm suddenly having doubts about the longevity of this. I'm having a blast up to now and I'm a whisper away from 20. But I'm not a raider - I played WoW for years as a devout soloist; I have no interest in PVP so have no intention to pop into the Crucible; and I found it forces you into matchmaking if you want to do a strike and yer pals aren't online. I didn't get where I am today by getting lumped with unwashed unknowns.
So I'm wondering how much fun I can get out of doing dailies and farming for legendaries that I'll only really need if I want to go raiding.

Same thought process as as you mate, never been into pvp, raids sound fun but long, don't think I could find the time to meet up regularly, if shadow of mordor is as good as it looks i think that will take up a lot of my time, then driveclub looks really good too. so Destiny could drop of my playlist for a while. I will drop in now and then though, so wont stop playing totally.

Blaspheme! negative posts about Destiny!! But seriously you both have a point, traditional mmo’s have a far longer journey to end game, imo Destiny’s is to short. bungie claim to cover all bases for every gamer be they casual or fanatical, time will tell. Personally I’m levelling so I don’t get spanked by elites and can eventually get a bit of payback. I’ve also enjoyed the small amount of pvp I’ve done, strikes are fun with 3 mates, but I also don’t fancy doing them with randoms, as for raids I doubt I’ll ever find the time to do a full one. But it’s the social aspect I’m enjoying the most it increases the enjoyment 10 fold. However my destiny is digital so it’s not going anywhere, in a few months time I’m expecting it to still be bubbling away in the background, it will be something to dip in and out of for a chat and a laugh or just to kill time.

I've not finished the story yet, I keep getting distracted by bounties, strikes and daily events. I wouldn't say I'm as detached from the story as I was with watch dogs but i still don't care (or really understand) all too much about about why I'm killing all the things.
Some people have said the story seems to be setting the scene and things will become clearer and more detailed over months and years of content releases.
Still having a blast with it in general and its great having clan members online to share in the killing.

Tbh honest I've not played any other game since it's release, we will have to see how the longevity goes I suppose.

Having read quite a bit about the loot system I don't think I can be arsed to grind for light levels. I've done a few missions on the 20 warlock with no advancement. I've had more fun levelling the hunter. I think I'll get that to 20 and probably call it quits. I'm still enjoying it but I think in a few days time all I'll be wanting to do is nip on now and again for a few patrol missions. Might do a titan to complete the set, might not.
I can see Bungie milking this dry with paid expansions, but I don't think they'll get any more money out of me. It's all very well excusing the crap and short story with 'oh this is just the beginning'. I couldn't even tell you what the story is, it's that unmemorable.
I've enjoyed it but I'm not going to fork out cash to buy more stuff that should have been in the game in the first place.

not sure if anyone has posted this elsewhere.
the item that accrues your XP towards a faction (type armour, bottom right item). theres no point atm getting this past level 3.
so when u do hit level 3, go buy a different factions colours n try get each one up to level 3.
that'll then give u access to all the available armour/weapons available from the tower

Spent a good few hours over the weekend trying to get from 21 to 22 with not much to show for it apart from a purple heavy machine gun, my other gear is all blue and the armour is levelled as far as it will go.
Is it normal for the early light levels to be so slow?
