I've come around to the idea of VR I'm tempted to go in day one, but my head says wait for the second gen as they will have ironed out any problems and improved the headset.

Thank you, Bahamut. Your sentiments and concern for my wellbeing have touched me deeply and have, to a degree, restored some of my lost faith in human nature.
I think it'll be released as soon as it's finished, though, especially if it's digital only. Can't see Sony sitting on this.
And then you can all stay the hell offa my planets.

I think we saw that coming. Its probably Sony delaying the release for the VR madness next year.

I wonder if it is too tie in with the VR release. It would be the killer game to shift headset units.
Granted they have to allow non VR gameplay but of all the games slated for VR, (and this as far as I know hasn't been), this is the game that will really fit. (and alien isolation, and elite dangerous...)

Although it's almost certainly to do with VR, I have a lurking suspicion that they (and I don't mean Hello Games) are releasing it in 8 months time specifically to irritate me.
Slant-eyed little bastards.

80% of people will hate it, and because they'll be falling over themselves to be the first to say that, they'll have played it for half an hour. I make no secret of the fact I think this is going to be a masterpiece, but acknowledge that there is a chance it just might not be. But love it or hate it, I'm pretty sure you'll have to play it for several hours to give it any kind of proper appraisal. Most that hate it will play if for half an hour, will decide that it doesn't move fast enough, and won't look at it again. Calling it crap after that is like reviewing Lord of the Rings after reading only the first page.

What's got up my nose is that if you pre-order on psn which as it happens is the same prices as amazon at the moment, you get pre-order dlc a ship with guns and a load of cash in whatever currency the game has, now dont get me wrong thank you very much im not ungrateful , but dosnt that destroyed the hole point of the beginning of the game, and any sense of achievement for earning it yourself? Lets face it there's not much else to do apart from bigger guns and a faster ship.

Yes, good point. You get stuff like that with a special ed that's about £20 more too. I'm also surprised it's being knocked out at that price point, very surprised. It make have taken a long time - but still not as long as The Division for example, or in fact most big-budget games - but it's a tiny development team, and most of the hype of the last 2 years has been delivered for free. It's been press speculation, not a mammoth Sony marketing campaign. I wish Hello Games all manner of success, but I'd like to hear some justification for the £50 price point.
I'll still get it though.
What softens the blow somewhat about the pre-order freebies is that it's essentially a single player game, there's no competition (and very likely no contact) with anybody else. But still, you'd expect everybody to be on equal footing at the start, like in Elite.

This is currently £41.50 at The Game Collection (never used em). I've emailed Amazon to ask if they have any price-matching policy because my pre-order there stands at £48.99. I'm pretty sure they don't have an official policy, but they have been known to drop prices to match other sites.
You never know.
