Anyone see the Twitch preview of the Reef and the new content. Looks like you can exchange everything for glimmer or other mats and upgrade everything, not just exotics.

I didn't watch it but I've just read about the ability to upgrade anything - and I'll be the first to say that I'm not convinced that's a good idea. It depends on how much new content there is - by that I mean places to go and things to do, not things to upgrade. When the first expansion came out I was as pissed off as anyone to learn that my favourite purples couldn't be upgraded, and that you had to go through Xur's ridiculous procedure for upgrading exotics.
But it became apparent before long - to me anyway - that the main appeal of the game had become the obtaining and upgrading of new weapons to replace them. If Xur had a goody in stock I'd play for hours over the weekend solely to upgrade it. I'm concerned now that if I can easily upgrade current gear, I'll get bored with the second expansion even faster.

I watched the stream on YouTube this morning and I'm pretty hyped.
Pigmagnet, I think the new challenge is finding your gear you want that looks good / has perks you like and then getting that to the level cap instead. The collector in me wants to have full sets of crota, VoG, iron banner, Osiris and prison of elder gear on each character. And since the upgrade system means it won't be irrelevant then it won't feel like a waste like my old iron banner gear was

If I'd known they would give us an upgrade path for the original game gear I would have kept most of it. I'll focus on collecting the new armour and weapons from the new content.

well considering how often we run vog for the chance at 2 exotics and fatebringer you should get the armour pretty easy

Indeed. I had a full warlock set after just 5 runs through! Now to start on my Titan to get it all

Who is looking forward to prison of elders? The guys on the stream last night were awful. Made it harder for themselves than they needed.
I think it could be fun, if incredibly tense!

I really like the look of it. It reminds me of the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer - I spent waaaaay too much time playing that - I agree the guys probably made it look harder than it is but I imagine the level 35 one will be pretty tough!

I like the idea of PoE more than the other HoW content, although I've not seen the new 'story'. Looks tough but I agree Deej made it more difficult than they could handle. Poor decision for a live preview stream.

Right - since I don't pvp at all, it looks like HoW for me will be a few story missions which will then go on endless 'mission of the day' repeat, and a 3-man horde mode. I don't really rate a few new weapons and armour bits as significant new content. So is that all it is or have I missed a crucial thing?
Oh, there's one strike also.

Sadly, I'm not expecting as much new content as Bungie is pitching...
They seem to be putting as much effort into PVP activities as PVE. And the lack of new enemies and PVP maps is disappointing. ToO looks too tough for the casual PVP player and PoE looks like it could get repetitive quickly.
That said, I haven't seen the story bounties (maybe just a rehash of the Eris format). Trying to keep an open mind but hard not to be sceptical from the previews.

I'm definitely unexcited. PoE sounds like the arena mode on Borderlands, which I wasn't too keen on. With other games on the horizon it's possible I won't give much time at all to this. I'll get it because I've already paid for it, but it looks like a mighty disappointment.

I dunno, I would say that the prison of elders will have way more replayability than the Crota raid (and I have ~60+ clears of it). The random modifiers will make it interesting. Plus the variety of the challenges and enemy types will add interesting dynamics to prevent cheesing.
New pvp maps look fun. Trials of osiris does look hard but the gear will drop randomly at end of matches as well. Plus there are different reward tiers so you are bound to get something. Add in the fact that there is no matchmaking so a lot of people will resort to LFG. A lot of us guys play together regularly so that is already going to be a bonus.
The new quality of life perks that are being added (ascending weapons etc) just means I am looking forward to this a helluva lot more than I was when the initial announcement of no raid was made.

From what I've seen Prison of Elders it looks like a good game mode, but I question its gameplay. It doesn't really offer what we haven't seen already in strikes and raids. 3 waves of hive, vex and fallen then 2 bosses which are basically the same bosses with different looks and names. I could see the new strike set on the ketch being really annoyingly difficult in a nightfall. As for the Trials of Osiris its basically skirmish with a fancy name. That leaves the story and I hope that doesn't disappoint. I will look forward to it on May 19th and hopefully it will surprise me.

The keen eyed of you (or those who venture onto reddit) will have noticed in the official reveal trailer from yesterday that there is a part where you are in a gunfight with fallen....in the Templars well section area from VoG! Got to be part of the story. Also looks like there is a jump puzzle esque sequence as well.
