I've got my Warlock to level 40 with 280 light, and yesterday managed to get my Titan from level 32 to level 39 while also doing the weekly with my Warlock, so it doesn't take much time to get them up to level even if not with the light. Once at 40, you can swap weapons and ghosts across to raise your light level higher.
There are some nice touches that I'm enjoying (the Gunsmith levelling where you get to try a load of weapons with very simple 'missions' for each (kill x many of these with precision etc.) so you can level those while doing other missions.
Since I didn't play the House of Wolves at the time, I still haven't played the 'not a raid' thing at the end, so if anyone wants to have a go, feel free to ping me.

Don’t know if it’s already been mentioned but you can now skip those annoying cutscenes. YAY!

Now down to £20.00 on PSN including the last two expansions and auto level to lvl 25, I have a feeling a few of us that where lost may be coming back to the fold But where do we start as players left behind, what is the best thing to do to start leveling up again?? Any tips from the pros???

Depends where you stopped, I suppose. I went as far as I could without TTK, so am on level 34 (I think). I expect to romp through the story missions, but am going to resist doing every single daily mission/strike/whatnot. It's going to be a far more casual thing for me now. I allowed it to dominate my time.

I got a 26 and 30 to 34 in only a few hours levelling without light is much faster now. I enjoyed it too felt like real progress but as soon as I hit 34 I was out of there as it was wasted xp.

Well, I've got my spacewizard to 40, and was disappointed (though I shouldn't have been) to get totally worthless rewards for finishing the TK quests. Now all I have to do are the same old bounties (with one extra area), and the matchmaking strikes.
The new levelling system... isn't, really. In vanilla Destiny, any old chump could get to 20 but if you didn't get the better light gear you were locked out of certain activities. Now any old chump can get to 40, and you'd expect to at least be able to do the daily heroic mission. No such luck. Now you must grind, like in the old days, for the better gear before you can even think about attempting the daily mission. Strikes are matchmaking, so they're out for me.

Tis why I waited for a price drop. I’ve spent £20 on worse than this I reckon I’ll get me moneys worth.

Aye, I'll get £20 worth of play out of it. But I reckon if you added the main game plus all three expansions together, that's about how big the game should have been originally. There's not a vast amount of content, it's always been about doing the same things again and again. No problem there if you enjoy what you're repeating - and to be fair I've sunk hundreds of hours into it. I've just decided that from now on, I won't be doing that. So I know I probably won't even get one character decently kitted out, and won't even see a nightfall. I might never be able to do the daily heroic.
What I probably will do though, is run through the TK story with the other 2 characters I have. The missions are better. The script and plot are undoubtedly better, even though the plot is still bollocks and irrelevant, and sees Bungie trying to make sense of the mess they made a year and a bit ago. They've done it mainly with humour from Nathan Fillion, which means Firefly fans will enjoy them the most.

the trick is to get one character quite high then you can pass your excess high stuff onto your other characters to infuse. shared set of weapons too... oh and once you hit 280 raid stuff always drops at 300+ sparrow racing gets you 300-320 helmets and class items after rank 3

I have the joys of infusion to look forward to. It's a time thing now though. I decided before I caved in and bought that I will be spending much less time playing it than I used to. I'd say it's because I have a life, but that would be a lie. I don't.
Edit: in the preliminary running-round-the-tower bit, before I started the TK missions properly, someone gave me a year one exotic. It of course had a piddling attack power of 160 but it was better than nowt and it was good enough for most of the missions. Can't recall who gave me it, it was possibly the gunsmith. Will my other 2 get one or was I 'lucky'?

Oh well. At least it was a Thorn, which was nice, since it's one I'd never have got otherwise.
